Q: Tell us a little about your background/training.
I have worked in Neurology since graduating PA school from Idaho State University in 2014. My first position was in general neurology with a specific acute headache management role in Michigan. In 2016, I moved with my family to Seattle, WA where I worked as a neurosurgical PA covering two hospitals, as first assist for all cranial and spinal procedures and taking first Neuro ICU call. In 2019, I moved within the same practice to a hybrid role of endovascular neurology/stroke care and outpatient headache/migraine management. In this position, I assisted elective angiograms, aneurysm embolizations and angioplasty procedures and managed my own headache patient base to include new patients and follow ups, performing procedures for headache including botox for chronic migraine, nerve blocks for acute headache, and trigger point injections. I continued this through the pandemic until my youngest was born.
Q: Tell us about why you chose neurology and headaches specifically - what interested you most about this field?
Neurology is a fascinating and evolving specialty with constantly improving treatments and procedures. This is especially true with headache care and as it is such a prevalent problem, it is exciting to be able to explore these options with patients.
Q: What have been the things you are most proud of in your career?
I am grateful for the opportunity to be able to be involved in the care for patients with neurologic conditions. In my neurosurgery experience, I have treated countless patients with traumatic brain injury and some of my most rewarding experiences have been in aiding in the recovery of TBI which can be so life-altering, especially with patients with persistent headaches and cognitive changes.
Q: What have you learned from your patients that has helped you become a better healthcare provider?
The more people I have met, the more I have learned that patients want to be involved! I believe in empowering patients and that giving them the tools to take an active role in their treatment is the best way to improve their quality of life. Making treatment decisions together improves the outcome for patients and providers.
Q: What are you most excited about regarding your role at Neura?
I am excited to be able to help patients who have been living with headaches and migraines because of the lack of specialized care due to geography and circumstances. I believe that Neura’s team based approach to care will make the difference in the success of treatment for many patients and I am excited to be a part of it.
